African Juice Nigerian musician Sly Williams is one of the leading lights of a style called Afrobeats, a sound that combines elements of hip-hop, Afro, EDM, R&B, and African rhythms. Sly Williams (full name Sylvanus Odey Williams ) was born in Lagos, who came from Mbube in ogoja LG in cross river state.
Growing up, he was a major fan of Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and watching their videos on television inspired him to try his own hand at making music. By the time he was six years old, sly Williams had decided he wanted to be a music star, and he got his start as a performer when he landed a spot as a backup artiste. his love for music began in his secondary school days as a backup artist to a group called“Relex”.
He became interested in song writing and, working in several recording studios in Lagos, he learned first-hand about music and composition technique.
In 2012, Sly Williams struck a deal with the Nigerian label DLB entertainment and released his debut single, Caro. After years working on the sidelines, sly Williams stepped into the spotlight in 2013 with the release of the single “Oluwa dey” which became a major hit in Nigeria.
After scoring several more hit singles, including sexy lady, ESe and frigidi” as his fame grew in his homeland, Sly Williams became the first Afrobeats artist from the land of Mbube.
